Tom Lilburn

Tom Lilburn is a 30-year-old English countertenor. This summer he sang Arsete in Handel’s Titus L’empereur with Opera Settecento and recorded the role of Moon in Michael Betteridge’s The Last Bit of The Moon with OperaUpClose. He has covered in Handel’s Agrippina and in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea with English Touring Opera. Whilst at The Royal College of Music he sang Refugee in Dove’s Flight and Unulfo in Handel’s Rodelinda.

Tom is also a Lay Clerk at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and in April 2021 he was one of four singers at the funeral of The Duke of Edinburgh. An experienced oratorio performer, recent performances include Handel’s Theodora, Messiah and Dixit Dominus, Bach’s St. John Passion and Mass in B Minor, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Vivaldi’s Cessate, omai cessate. In November 2023 he sang the solos from Handel’s Messiah in the Royal Albert Hall with The Really Big Chorus, and he recently performed Baroque arias in Milan with Florilegium.

Tom is a member of vocal sextet The Queen’s Six and he has worked with consorts including Tenebrae, The Sixteen, The Binchois Consort and ORA. He is represented by Ann Ferrier and studies with Sally Burgess.
